The Magic of Winter Fishing Charters in Bradenton with Captain Nate Costello and AMI Excursions

The Magic of Winter Fishing Charters in Bradenton

Cooler temps, blue skies, and great fish make for amazing Bradenton fishing charters this time of year.

My job is awesome. As a Bradenton fishing charter captain, I get to be out on the water all year-round. While other folks have to put their boat up for the winter, we get to go out and enjoy beautiful weather and tons of great fish.

Because of what we, as a culture, think of as “winter weather,” we don’t always associate January and February with fishing. But in Bradenton, they 100% are. Yes, there are loads of fantastic (and delicious) fish to catch. But there’s also this magical weather that makes for a beautiful backdrop for fishing charters and sunset cruises in Anna Maria Island waters.

AMI fishing charters in winter truly have something for everyone.

The Experienced Angler

Yep, the fish are the stars of the show. For people who are focused on all fish, all the time, a winter AMI fishing charter will not disappoint.

Want to brave the waves and the sea spray for offshore adventures? We can target pompano all around, and those fast, strong fighters are a blast to catch.

Or for even more adrenaline, we can get out in deep waters for wahoo, and trust me, their name says it all. Reel in one of these bad boys and you’ll have memories to last a lifetime.

Newbies and Kids

Not everyone’s down for big swells and big fish. When you’re first getting the fishing bug, the most important thing is just feeling that tug on your line. That’s literally what gets you hooked.

I absolutely love leading Anna Maria fishing charters for kids. Their excitement is contagious and it really reminds me why I do this.

When we’re introducing new people to fishing (and honestly, this applies to any age), it’s less about the trophy and more about consistency. This time of year, Spanish mackerel are a great species for this. We don’t like to jinx it and say that they’re “easy,” but let’s just say that they rarely disappoint. They don’t require big heavy gear, but they still put up a fun fight.

The Nature Lover

For some folks, fishing is less about the fish and more about just getting out and enjoying the beautiful setting. Let me tell you, winter fishing charters in Anna Maria Island are great for this!

Not only do we enjoy blue skies and loads of sunshine, but if you want to see some sunsets over the Gulf, winter is actually perfect for an AMI sunset cruise. That’s because the sky is so clear and the angle that the sun sets at gives us a jaw-dropping array of colors. Even when you’re on a fishing trip, Anna Maria nature sometimes throws such beauty at you that you momentarily forget to put your line in the water.

The Foodie

The culinary bounty available around here this time of year is not to be believed. Virtually every fish we pull in makes for delicious eating. And on top of that, so many of the species we’re targeting have little to no limits, so you can catch yourself an absolute feast!

Your menu might include sheepshead (ie “the poor man’s lobster), mangrove snapper, flounder, hogfish, and even snook and grouper. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
