Florida Fishing Resolutions for 2023
What are your New Year’s Resolutions for 2023?
If one of them is, “Get out on the water more,” then AMI Excursions can make your resolutions come true—especially right here in the warm, bounteous waters of Sarasota-Manatee.
In fact, not only can we get you out on the Gulf of Mexico, Sarasota Bay, or the southwest Florida Intracoastal and all its amazing hidden fishing gems. We can ensure that you have a successful excursion, fishing the right spot with the right tackle for the right fish for this time of year.
So what will we be fishing for in January 2023 and beyond?

- Shark
- Tarpon
Whether you’re fishing for sport, for food, or just for fun, we can find the fish for you.
What Fish Are In Season Now?
As we write this blog just after Christmas 2022 and into New Year’s 2023, our winter waters have attracted schools of fabulous fish options. And the FWC allows many of them to be fished statewide and into the Gulf and Atlantic this time of year—including specifically for recreational purposes.
So to kick off your 2023 fishing resolution, take a gander at some of the current available for Florida fishing this January:
- Flounder
- Mackerel
- Pompano
- Red drum
- Sheepshead
- Snook
- Tarpon
- Tripletail
- Wahoo
Of course, a number of variables still affects what fish are available where and when—from state regulations to seasonal adjustments. When in doubt, your best bet is to talk to our own Captain Nate, who can tell you more about what’s best to fish when you schedule your AMI Excursion.
What Else to Expect on your January Florida Fishing Trip
Depending on your needs and expectations, you might consider other factors when planning your AMI Excursion.
Florida weather is fabulous year-round, of course. But we do have cold snaps and winter storms. And if you’ve ever spent any time on a boat, you know it’s considerably colder when you’re out exposed to the wind and the spray. If we know the weather is going to be especially chilly or gusty or choppy, we might recommend more sheltered fishing holes. It’s just more fun if everybody’s comfortable during the fish!
Additionally, please understand that this is Florida’s busiest season. Not only do we get an influx of tourists and snowbirds this time of year, so that our population really expands. But us locals like to get out there and go fishing, too! That can make for busy spots.
Of course, Captain Nate knows these waters well. Not every great fishing spot can be kept a secret. Depending on your preference and the day, we might try lesser-known spots if we’d prefer fishing in a little peace and quiet.
Fortunately, our 23-foot Hanson boat is sturdy, comfortable and agile. She can get us to all the places we might want to explore, and you will enjoy the journey almost as much as the destination.
Get Your New Year’s Resolutions Started Right
