The Best Inshore Fishing March Ever: Snook, Redfish, and Trout Go Off
We are coming to the end of one of the best months of inshore fishing I have ever seen on my Anna Maria Island Fishing Charters. March is always a great month to come down and do some shallow water sportfishing for snook, redfish, and seatrout, but this March was special. The quality and quantity of snook, redfish, and trout in our local waters this year have been second to none, providing some incredible memories for families all over the country. The water has also been as clean and clear as I’ve ever seen it, and the beauty of the water and the fishing should only get better as we creep into April.
Snook fishing in March
The snook fishing this March has been as good as it gets! We had a late start to the snook fishing this year as we had some super cold water temperatures in February, but the snook fishing really popped off in March. The snook have been all throughout the shallow grass flats and mangrove lines in great numbers. We have seen some very healthy snook this year, with lots of 23 to 27-inch fish on the flats, catching them in great numbers. We have caught many slot-size snook this March, as well as multiple overslot snook, but I have been very impressed by how big the average-size snook are that we have been catching on the grass flats. We have also been catching snook on their normal summer beach spots super early in the year as the water temperatures increase. I expect to start seeing more and more snook on the beaches and passes.

The red fish fishing this March has been as good as it will ever get anywhere in the world! The number of days when we have stumbled across a big school of redfish and caught a bunch of them has been insane. The fish are all over the place in great numbers and in great size. We have had a lot of trips where we would catch a dozen big redfish, leave them be, and go to another spot and catch a dozen or more big redfish. It’s been great. We have also been catching a ton of smaller redfish, which is always a great thing to see, and I hope all these redfish stick around and find the beautiful Anna Maria Island waterways to be their home, so we can enjoy catching them on my Anna Maria Island Fishing Charters to come. We caught our biggest redfish on a grass flat a couple of days back, measuring 37 inches in length, which was a super cool fish to catch in a couple of feet of water! The redfish should stick around for the months to come, so if you want your shot at a big redfish, we are just getting started!
Trout fishing in March
The trout fishing this March has been incredible, as it always is in March. We have seen a ton of big gator trout, with the biggest so far this year measuring at 26 inches. We have seen a very high number of trout in the 20 to 25 inch range, and it’s truly been as many keeper trout as you want to catch all over the deep grass flats of Tampa Bay and Anna Maria Sound.
Other species of Fish we’ve been catching this March
Snook, Redfish, and Trout have been the core of our march fishing, but we have been catching a lot more than just those! We have been doing some Spanish and king mackerel fishing in the bay and several miles off the beach. Both Spanish and king mackerel are hard-fighting, drag-screaming, toothy fish that are known for their torpedo-like shape and their intense fight. We have had great luck with mackerel fishing, and they will be around for a few months to come. We have also been catching a lot of cobia around the deep grass areas, and rock piles around the passes, and just off the beach, and these fish should push into our area very heavily over the next month and a half. We have also been catching a lot of sharks, jack crevalle, some amber jacks, and much more on the offshore side of things.
