On the first day, we had an incredible outing, catching a substantial number of gag grouper, including several nice keepers and a keeper red grouper. It was a day filled with intense battles, laughter, and memories that this fantastic group of friends will cherish for a lifetime. Day two began early, launching as the sun rose. After catching several keeper groupers for dinner, we decided to change things up. With only one bait, I discreetly positioned the boat, baited the hook, and cast it perfectly for the bait to drift past these trophy fish. I instructed my clients on how to fish for permit and what to do if the line started screaming. It was a moment I’ll never forget. Moments later, I heard one of my guests exclaim, “Nate, I think the line is shooting out of the reel!” I quickly closed the bail, reeled down, and handed off the rod. All we heard was the drag screaming and the rod bending! The fish fought hard for about four minutes before we saw that beautiful fish flashing through the water.
